In celebration of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series’ Tshwane debut on Sunday 27 August 2023, event organizer Stillwater Sports is excited to introduce an innovative “Schools Challenge” that is bound to spark exciting competition amongst the leading athletics schools in the region.
“The Schools Challenge is an exciting opportunity for schools and learners to experience the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series. “Because a little ‘friendly competition’ goes a long way, all schools are encouraged to enter as many learners as possible. While fueling a passion for the sport of road running, the challenge aims to excite junior runners and encourage team spirit, while generating friendly rivalries amongst other schools.”
The Schools Challenge will consist of separate Boys and Girls divisions, with participation open to athletes aged 14 years and above. Schools can enter as many learners as possible, but only the Top 10 finishing times in each division will be tallied, with incredible prizes being awarded to the Top 5 Boys Teams and Top 5 Girls Teams. The winning teams (Boys and Girls) will take home a well-deserved Floating Trophy.
“The Schools Challenge will boast a special discounted entry fee of R200, this includes a temporary licence,” continues Meyer. “To add a personal touch and make the process as enjoyable as possible, a dedicated ‘Group Entries’ collection point for the schools will be available at Race Pack Collection.”
The Schools Wave will start in a specific batch, ensuring that all learners are grouped together, and athletes can display team cohesion by dressing alike and/or wearing their school colours. The results will be made public in the days following the race.
“We encourage the schools to incorporate the event t-shirt into their dress code,” adds Meyer. “That way they’ll still be part of the ‘sea of red’ on event day. We’d like to invite all schools to take up the challenge and join us in Tshwane ready to #RunYourCity.”
